Accommodation.

The lodge has 15 bedrooms, a combination of single, twin and double rooms. 11 rooms are en-suite and there are two further bathrooms, one with shower.

There are two Sitting Rooms, one with a TV. There is an efficient Drying Room.

Arrival Information 

Six weeks prior to your arrival we will send the invoice for any balances due for fishing and shooting, and an invoice for board and accommodation. We also include an Arrivals proforma; a Temporary Membership form; a Gyrodactylus salaris declaration, a Fly Order form, and some General Information for first time visitors. Please complete these (where applicable) and return to the estate office.

Cellar.

An excellent cellar of wines, spirits and beers are available in the Lodge. These should be ordered from the Housekeepers upon arrival or as required.

Guests usually choose to share the cost of wines at dinner. By tradition ghillies are entitled to a bottle of beer a day, which will be included in the bill.

Changeover Night.

Changeover night on a Wednesday is a Grimersta tradition. With both outgoing and incoming parties in the lodge it can be fairly full. Incoming guests have priority and therefore it may occasionally be necessary to move rooms on this night (there is no charge for the second Wednesday night). If there are likely to be more than eight guests in your party please discuss arrangements with Joanna.

Dining.

Breakfast: 8.30 am.  Afternoon Tea: 5.45 pm.  Dinner: 7.45 pm. (Sundays, Breakfast: 9.30 am,
Lunch: 1.00 pm, or by arrangement).

A gong will be sounded prior to meals and it is requested that guests be punctual. A jacket and tie are required for dinner.

There is a set menu and a single sitting for breakfast and dinner. Please be aware that food may contain or have come into contact with common allergens. If you have any specific allergies, please notify Joanna prior to arrival.

After dinner, the Dining Room should be vacated reasonably promptly to allow staff to complete their duties. Coffee is served in the Sitting Room.

Early morning tea, drinks, and picnic lunches are ordered from the Housekeepers upon arrival.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome on the estate subject to prior arrangement with Chris. Please note that dogs are not allowed in the Lodge. We currently have limited kennelling and dogs are expected to sleep in cars.

Fishing Rules

The Grimersta Sporting and General Rules (2024) are shown on the website and in the Writing Room, and are available upon request from the Estate Office.

Gyrodactylus salaris

Please ensure that you complete and sign the Gyrodactylus salaris declaration and return it to the Estate Office. It is estate policy that no one may fish until a declaration has been received.

Internet and Mobile 

Decent Internet access is available in the Lodge. There is reasonable mobile ‘phone network coverage across the island.

Laundry and Towels

Laundry facilities are limited and we cannot undertake personal laundry. Please ensure you have sufficient clothing for the duration of your stay. If you require fresh towels please leave in the bath or shower and they will be replaced.

Retained Salmon.

We will arrange for any retained fish to be frozen, packed, and labelled prior to departure.

Safety.

Life jackets are provided and Rods must wear life jackets when in a boat. We also strongly advise the use of suitable eye protection.

Sporting Club.

lAll fishing and shooting guests are Temporary Members of Grimersta Sporting Club for the duration of their visit during the current season. A charge for Temporary Membership is included in the rate for fishing or shooting. A Temporary Membership application form will be forwarded six weeks prior to your visit and must be completed and returned to the estate office prior to undertaking any sporting activities.

Smoking.

Please note that smoking is not permitted in the lodge, estate buildings or vehicles.

Tackle. 

The Estate maintains a supply of tackle including complete rod outfits, flies and nylon. We also stock midge nets, insect repellent etc. These items can be ordered from your ghillie or in advance through the Estate Office.

If you require collection from / to Stornoway Airport, please contact Joanna  who will arrange a taxi. We have an account with a taxi firm and will invoice you for this retrospectively.

Travel Insurance. We strongly recommend that guests insure against holiday cancellation and have suitable travel insurance.

Travelling from Stornoway: Journey time: from Stornoway allow 30 minutes; from airport allow 45 minutes.

From both airport and ferry follow signs for Tarbert.

Take the A859 south for approx. 11km. to Liurbost (Leurbost), school on left, petrol station on right.

Turn right (signpost for Gearraidh na h-Aibhne, Uig and Bernera).

12km to Gearraidh na h-Aibhne (Garynahine)

Turn left (signpost for Uig and Bernera) over River Blackwater, round series of bends at head of sea loch and over River Grimersta (now signposted).

Turn right (signpost Linsiadar)

Do not follow road round to left (to Linsiadar) but keep right and then turn left through gates before the old bridge.

Travelling from Tarbert: Journey time: allow 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Caution! Please drive with great care on the Lodge Road. Gun Dogs  Terrier, Ghillies and Guests at large!
